Heritage Island Freshwater Tidal Wetland Creation
Project Profile
Heritage Island Freshwater Tidal Wetland Creation
US Federal Government
Anacostia River – Washington, DC
Installed several thousand linear feet of double-stacked coir logs, 6 acres of goose exclusion fence, over 65,000 herbaceous wetland plugs, and 3,000 wetland shrubs. Extremely soft sediment and unpredictable tides (exacerbated by the influence of freshwater run-off from upriver, winds, and restricted channels) made this work particularly difficulty and required thorough planning and flexibility to successfully complete this project.
